​Through mindful meditation, deep breathing we journey deep into our core, setting intentions, manifesting and connecting with the mind, body and soul with the healing movements of Congolese Dance. It’s called the “medicine dance” for a reason.
Congolese dance offers therapeutic properties…it opens your heart, body and soul. Yes, the unique grooves of Congolese is the root of many forms of dance we know and love such as hip hop, salsa, merengue, reggae, and samba, among others. Along with the live drumming, this class invites you to not only have fun but get an incredible work out. Through breathing, yoga visualization, meditation and healing vibrations through pelvic rotations dancers will go deep within the core to manifest what they want in life. Join this very spiritual experience as we journey within and manifest using Congolese African dance as medium. The ancient dance of the Congolese, combined with the genius creations of their descendants, have shaped music and dance styles in the Diaspora and Africa: Afrobeats, Samba, Salsa, Hip Hop, Reggae, Calypso and Soca to name a few.

This class will teach you the fundamentals of traditional Congolese dance with emphasis on the healing and spiritual aspects of the practice. Classes start with a thorough warm up, followed by a sequence of movements.

Through percussion instruments, hand drums, rhythm sticks, boom wackers, shekere, bucket drums, cow bells etc. Learn rhythms from around the world. Create and write drums patterns, incorporating singing and home made instruments.
